Crafter
Crafter Guitars began as a small family workshop in South Korea in 1972, founded by HyunKwon Park in the basement of his home in Mapo‑gu, Seoul. Originally the company was called SungEum Guitars, and its early output focused on high‑quality classical guitars for the Korean domestic market.
Timeline & Development
The Journey of CRAFTER Guitars
By 1978, the business had grown enough to relocate to Yangju City in Gyeonggi Province, expanding production capacity. The name SungEum (成音) reflected the founder’s goal of creating the “perfect sound,” a commitment that shaped the company’s early reputation.
In 1986, HyunKwon’s son Park In‑Jae took leadership and launched the Crafter brand, choosing a name that was easier to pronounce internationally and that highlighted the craftsmanship behind the instruments. Trademark registrations and international partnerships began around this time, helping Crafter reach players beyond Korea.
Over the decades, Crafter expanded its range from classical guitars into acoustic, electro‑acoustic, electric guitars, and basses, with more advanced construction techniques and design features emerging over time. Production grew significantly, distribution spread to many countries, and the company became known as one of South Korea’s leading guitar manufacturers.
In 2019, the third generation of the Park family, led by Park Jun‑Seok, rebranded the company as Crafter Korea, continuing the legacy of craftsmanship while embracing technological innovations and modern design.

Since 1972, the Crafter team has built an extensive knowledge base around tonewoods—gathered through decades of research and experience. From natural drying process honed through Korea’s extreme seasonal climate to state-of-the-art humidity and temperature control systems, we’ve developed a proprietary process to enhance durability and minimize distortion.
Our ongoing pursuit of premium woods from Africa, Europe, North America, and Hawaii is more than just sourcing—it reflects our philosophy from the very first step: that every great guitar begins with great wood.

The Vintage Voicing System (VVS) captures the warmth of vintage tone, while the DS-2 Pro+ preamp—pairing a condenser mic with a piezo pickup—and the Stealth Tuner system redefine modern amplification.
Even the invisible details, like our proprietary high-density 7Bar Saddle, are designed with one philosophy in mind: to shape every element for better tone.
